Visitor Welcome

  • Ashley, Member at Large, welcomed 1 new member and 3 visitors

Announcements & Upcoming Events

  • This month's Sewcial will be Saturday, October 11, 9:30 AM at Blackbird Comics and Coffee

  • Our exhibit up at downtown library through December! Come see 36 quilts and a dozen or so other items in cases; thank you for everyone who submitted something to share. Thank you also to those who helped in any way with setup - shoutout to Cara, Bradie, Ellen, Ashley, Jean, Moe, Tina, Cathy, Pat, and her son, Matt!

  • Thank you also to everyone who helped make our replica Pulse quilt, it was an incredible effort! The idea was presented on a Wednesday and the quilt was completed the following Sunday! It is on display at the library and will be donated after the exhibit closes. Thank you to Ellen, Doreen, Cara, Jane, Jean, Love, Karol, Susan, and Raven for supporting the effort.

  • Make sure you sign up for the retreat! Book your room and book the retreat pass online. Everyone will get their own table! Rooms at the hotel are being remodeled now and will be looking nice and new when we arrive. The retreat will feature a popup store from Sew Much Fun, a new quilt shop in Melbourne. We are seeking door prize donations - get them to Priscilla or Susan H.

  • T Shirts are back on sale thanks to Jolyn and her husband! Place your order online by October 10.

  • Board elections are coming up in February. Our President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Member at Large roles will be available. Cara and Ashley presented on the responsibilities of President and Member at Large today. Please let them know if you are interested in their roles or want to shadow.

  • Please let us know if you are interested in the Election committee. We need a total of 3 members to volunteer. Election Committee members cannot run for a board position.

  • Our December meeting doubles as our annual holiday social! We will have brief programming prior to our swap. Due to their great success last year, we will be swapping potholders again this year. Make sure you use insulbright or another appropriate batting for heat protection; batting needs to be cotton or wool (no polyester).

Treasurer Report

  • Most of our income is from the retreat and shirts, that money will zero out when we pay for the retreat room and order the shirts. Expenses were for 500 labels to use on charity quilts and business cards. Let Ellen know if you’d like to have a few cards to hand out!

  • New members - if you haven’t received your zip bag and membership card, please see Ellen.

Programming - Preparing for Longarm Quilting with member Priscilla Haga

  • Priscilla shared a lot of great information about preparing your quilt tops and backing as well as selecting your batting and quilting design! She shared a handout at the meeting, you can view it here.

Community Outreach

  • We have donated 60 quilts since the beginning of the year!

  • Taggie kits are coming to the retreat - have donated 290 so far!

  • Placemat kits for Meals on Wheels may also be coming to the retreat.

Education Basket

  • Bonnie won this month's basket!

BOM

  • Thank you for making Poppy Blocks! All blocks will be donated for Guadalupe River flooding relief efforts.

  • This month's block is Pick Your Corner(s) - a chance to play with snowballing corners using bright colors. A great way to use your triangle scraps!

  • Reminder - if you have a BOM idea - feel free to share!

Education

  • Check out what everyone made as part of Caroline's class!
