President Sarah opened the meeting with announcements and welcomed guests and new members.
A guest, Michelle, from Project Linus spoke about their mission. They provide blankets to kids in crisis or in need of security. They are collecting blankets for kids in the Central Florida area who lost active military parents. 1500 blankets are needed by November 21st. They can be baby to twin size and quilts, fleece, knit, or crochet. The Sewing Studio is a drop-off location. Visit

The Icebreaker started with Caroline (a former pilates instructor) getting us up and loosened while engaging our core for proper posture.
Next members moved around the room to answer polls about their quilting style by placing stickers in the spots that applied to them.
The Guild Bylaws received a major update thanks to the Task Force and were approved by the board. They are on the blog and can be viewed

The MQG announced their dues will increase by 20% in 2019. It is unclear if our guild dues will be impacted by this in the future.QuiltCon 2019 entries are open.

Jeff present the July BOM, the Illusion Block.
Paula shared blocks for Debra and Caroline's Improv Bees and Melissa's Queen Bee Says.

Marge shared the blocks she received this month for her Improv Bee prompt.
Beth and Caroline shared the blocks they made for Debra's Improv Bee prompt.
Aradria shared the blocks she received from the Blue Bees based on Mondrian and the Bauhaus movement.
Melissa was the queen for Queen Bee Says this month and shared the blocks she received.
Leslie shared the block she made for Caroline's Improv Bee.
Judi shared her Skillbuilder BOM's from Ede's Bee
Paula announced next month's meeting program will be 'B Squared'. Which may or may not have something to do with binding, basting, and batting.
Zonetta gave her financial report and also presented next months Icebreaker/Nametag Challenge. It will be a swap and 'get to know you' challenge. More info to come at the August meeting as details are worked out.
The Guild has a tax exempt number that can be used at The Sewing Studio when supplies are needed for challenges, like the QuiltCon charity quilt.
New members make sure you see Zonetta for your gift and Paula to have your photo taken for our member directory.
Marge presented about the Samaritans Village quilt progress. All groups are well on their way and will have their quilts finished by the November meeting.
Another 30 placemats were collected and given to Meals on Wheels last month.
Members were asked to vote for the Festival of Trees design. The middle design was the winner.
This year's charity quilt design, by Alissa was presented.
This is the fabric purchased to make the quilt.
Kits will be available at the August meeting and blocks due back at the September meeting.
Patti announced the Melissa Averinos class sigh-ups are open! She is taking sign-ups and checks can be sent to Zonetta to reserve your spot. The class is open to non-member sign-ups starting July 13th.
Marge reminded everyone to book their hotel rooms for this year's retreat Nov 9-12th in Daytona. See recent OrlandoMQG email with more information.
The committee is starting to collect prizes and is looking for more donations. If you have something in good condition that you would enjoy winning then see Marge.
Demo volunteers are needing to share a skill during the retreat. If you are interested, contact Marge.

Paula introduced our guest speaker, Kathryn from The Sewing Studio. With her background in theater, she taught the members important things about ergonomics related to our health and enjoying our hobbies to the fullest while limiting injuries.
Her handouts were full of great information about proper posture, range of motion, and correct height of work surfaces.
Kathryn also shared a video by Koala about the importance of a height adjustable work space.
